Soul Purpose: How to align your life with your true calling

Jun 21, 2025

I often meet people who are successful by society’s standards but feel unfulfilled at a deeper level. They may have climbed ladders, hit targets, even received accolades, but they still feel ‘something’ is missing. That something is often alignment with their true calling. Your calling isn’t necessarily a job title or a specific role; it’s the blend of your natural talents and your values.

Your life is made up of moments, and one of those moments may be when you hear that whisper asking if there is more to life. We all want our lives to be meaningful, but to find your true calling and connect with who you really are, can take time, sometimes a long time. When you know your true calling, you will want this to align with your life so that you can live with confidence and ease. The process of aligning with your soul purpose is a combination of mindset and connection to your core wisdom. When you live in alignment with your inner compass, your soul purpose, life becomes more meaningful, energising, and clear.

Purpose and Identity

I see purpose as what you are meant to do, your goals and direction. Identity, on the other hand, is about who you are, the traits, values, and experiences that define you. While they are intertwined, identity shapes how you pursue your purpose, the two are distinct: one is about being, the other about doing. I also feel that your identity lives closer to the surface and is more apparent to others, while purpose is quiet and is embedded in your soul.

Knowing your purpose

Knowing your purpose allows you to appreciate the choices, challenges, and even the hardships in your life, all of which will have shaped you. It will also form the foundation for life choices, help you choose where to settle, and guide any decisions you make and how you view the world.

Your soul purpose is the passion within you and the talents you display. To know your soul purpose requires a journey to discover your passions, talents, values, and beliefs. Identifying what brings you joy, and recognising your desires and intentions will then guide your life’s path.

The importance of finding your soul purpose

Finding your soul purpose is important for many reasons:

  1. It allows you to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life. Living in alignment with your soul purpose, you tap into your inner core wisdom and unlock your full potential.
  2. It helps you make decisions that are in alignment with your values and beliefs, leading to a more authentic and purpose-driven life.
  3. It gives you a sense of direction and guides you towards personal growth and self-improvement.
  4. It can lead to a greater sense of fulfillment and contentment in all aspects of your life, including relationships, personal and professional growth, and overall well-being.

Identifying your Purpose

Finding your purpose isn’t quick and may not be easy! I wrote a blog some time ago, which may be useful to read: Purpose.

Many people think they know themselves, but having a true understanding will take time, energy and answering a lot of difficult questions. Think about what brings you joy and fulfillment, what truly matters to you and what brings out your best traits? Let your answers flow. Your first answer may be quite vague, so dig deep with more and more ‘whys’.

How to align your life with your true calling

Well, let me start with this: be patient, this will take time! You need to ask questions, reflect, dream and be intentional to create the life you want!

So, the first step in aligning your life with your true calling is deep listening. That means carving out intentional time to disconnect from the noise of expectations (from family, society, even your own inner critic), and tune into what brings you alive. What do you lose track of time doing? What did you love as a child before the world told you who you ‘should’ be? The answers to these questions often lead back to your authentic self, the part of you that already knows your path.

From there, alignment becomes a matter of consistent, courageous choices. It may require shedding roles or routines that no longer serve you. But it’s important to remember that you don’t need to overhaul your entire life overnight. Start with small, daily shifts that reflect your deeper values, whether that’s setting boundaries, exploring creative passions, or simply saying ‘yes’ to what excites you and ‘no’ to what drains you.

Creating a life that aligns with your true calling is all about taking control and living consciously and purposefully, aligning your daily actions with your core values. When you get clarity, your purpose will guide you in life. By living authentically and purposefully, being true to others and yourself, you will fully connect with your soul purpose, and life will begin to resonate deeply with you.

How I can help…

Stepping into your soul’s purpose and aligning your life to it is all about getting clear on your vision, tuning into your intuition, and taking action. By doing this, over time, you’ll begin to create a life that feels deeply aligned and meaningful. You need to remember that:

  1. Taking time out to work on yourself is not selfish; it’s quite the opposite.
  2. Changes will take time, but will be worthwhile.
  3. Some life shifts may be huge, while others small; some are scary, while others are not.

True alignment isn’t about chasing an ideal; it’s about creating space for the real you to lead. When that happens, your work, relationships, and habits begin to feel less like obligations and more like expressions of who you truly are.
