There comes a moment on every soul’s journey when you need to let go, whether that is releasing attachments, negative emotions, a relationship, a role, a limiting belief, or a home that no longer aligns. This is rarely easy, often uncomfortable, and yet this act of letting go is when the deepest transformation begins.
What is letting go?
Letting go is a process that involves relinquishing or lessening our attachment to outcomes, desires, and expectations that aren’t serving us positively. This letting go is not giving up. It is not a weakness. It is a conscious choice to trust something greater than your fear or your control that may be hindering your personal growth and well-being.
This letting go seems simple enough: surrender to what is, accept things as they are, and move on. But if you have tried to do this, you will know that it can be incredibly challenging.
Why letting go is so hard
Our minds crave certainty. We will always hold on tightly to the familiar even when it hurts, even when it limits us. Any form of letting go can feel like losing control, losing identity, losing ground. But in truth, letting go is about creating space for new insight, new energy, and new beginnings.
Whether you’re holding onto an old version of yourself, a job that no longer lights you up, a relationship that drains you, or a home that no longer serves, I want you to know: it’s okay to release it. It’s a wise choice.
The power of letting go
Letting go involves acknowledging what no longer serves you, accepting change, and creating space for new experiences. When you let go, you’re not abandoning your power; you’re realigning with it. In the process of letting go, you step out of resistance and into resonance. You stop forcing and start flowing. You don’t need to have it all figured out to move forward; you need to be open to what my soul is guiding you towards. Letting go clears the clutter and brings you home. From this place, your purpose will become clearer, your energy will return, and life will start to feel lighter again.
How to let go
Letting go involves acceptance. Here are some examples where support in accepting a change is needed:
- Someone: When a relationship ends, one party may be unhappy, and it can be hard for them to let go of the hope that the relationship can be repaired.
- The past: Fixation on a past event or something that was lost or not achieved, because we feel it was unjust, leading to negativity.
- Anger: A perceived injustice, betrayal or humiliation can lead to anger and become a point of mental fixation.
- Resentment: Anger can become resentment and, if not expressed and resolved, can turn into bitterness. When in a bitter state of mind, we may feel cynical about things and people and fixate upon negatives and shortcomings.
In all these situations, forgiveness and acceptance are often essential for moving forward. To let go, you need to defuse the unhelpful, connect with the present, connect to your true values and take committed action guided by your values.
